Adding Asset Classifications and Product Codes
Adding New Classification
The asset classification scheme in TrackAbout allows you to keep track of your assets at 3 different levels: category, group and type. This structure gives you more flexibility in looking up assets, displaying asset information, and reporting on assets or asset types.
For information on asset classification, consult this section Key Concepts#Asset Classification
You first need to add asset type, then add the product code. While adding the product code, you will map it to the correct asset type.
Accessing the Asset Classification page
Asset are classified in three levels: Categories (top level), groups and types.
Here is how to configure these. From the menu Trackabout Config, select Asset Classifications TrackAbout Config --> Asset Classifications (Or type Asset Classification in the 'Jump To' box)
Adding a new Category
Adding a new Top level Category
Category Pointers: Categories are the top level of asset classification in TrackAbout, so any terms used here should be pretty general– possibly related to the use of the gas. For example: Medical, Industrial, Food Grade, etc.
PLEASE NOTE: If you select that the Category is not on customer balances in the accounting system, then you will not be able to load any balances for any asset Types which reside below that Category.
Adding a new Group
Adding a new Group to a Category. Expand the category tree where you want to add the new group:
Group Pointers: Groups are the second level of classification in TrackAbout, and should give a little more description than the category, such as the name of the gas or gas mixture.
Add a new Type
Add a new Type to a Group.
Notes:
- After adding a new type, please make sure to also add a new Product Code, instructions are below.
- If you are using the Rental Module, you will need to add all asset types to Rental Classes. For instructions on how to do this, see Assign Asset Types to Rental Classes.
Expand the category and Group tree where you want to add the type:
Type Pointers: Types are the most descriptive layer of classification in TrackAbout. They are usually set to be an abbreviated combination of the gas and size of the asset.

Adding a Product Code

TrackAbout Config --> Add New Product Codes (or type “Product Code Mappings” in the Jump To box)
- Enter the Product Code and the Description
- Select the Tracking Status. (Default is tracked) Please read (here) for a more complete and accurate description of what all the Tracking statuses mean.
- Choose the Category, Group, and Type from the drop-down lists
- Click the Save button
NOTE: If the needed Category, Group, and Type are not listed, click on the Asset Classifications link to set them up
