| Ingress Protection Rating | This evaluates how well a device stands up to environmental factors. Higher numbers designate greater protection. The first number refers to solids, the second number refers to liquids. | IP54 at a minimum. IP64 is better. |
| Intrinsic Safety (I-Safe) | An intrinsically safe device will not ignite combustibles. | Intrinsic Safety ratings should be evaluated for devices used in hazardous environments. Certifications correspond to the hazardous environments for which a device is recommended for use. |
| MIL-STD | US Military reliability testing standard which ensures that a device will perform in extreme weather conditions and withstand occasional shocks (drops). | 810-G |
| Drop Spec | This is a measurement of how far a device has been dropped and continued to perform. The test can vary from one manufacturer to another. | The MIL-STD 810-G standard requires 26 drops from 1.2 m (4 ft) onto plywood. |
